The Effect of a Metacognitive Intervention Programme on Cognitive Acceleration of Preschool Children

In this article we will consider some of the ways which research on metacognition has developed and offer new areas for work on metacognition in preschool children. This paper introduces a metacognitive programme that helps teachers promote children's thinking abilities. It provides evidence of cognitive acceleration in children of 5 and 6 years old. The most powerful aspect of metacognitive experiences is that children come to regard themselves as thinkers, as individuals who have some control over their own learning.
The Students' Adaptation to College - Analysis and Prevention

The article focuses on the first-year students' adaptation to college. The main goal of the research is to find how to improve the support for students at university. The findings improve understanding of aspects of students' adaptation to the college system in full-time students enrolled in the Faculty of Humanities, Tomas Bata University in Zlín, as well as in part-time students. This research also helps in the field of finding what influences and effects the students' adjustment to the college learning environment, including strategies that help to easily adjust into college life, and lead to their subsequent success.
Testing of the Geometric Imagination in a Plane

The article deals with the geometric imagination in relation to intelligence tests. During an exploratory investigation of geometric imagination of pupils aged 15-18 years, a non-standardized test was created and evaluated, testing the partial and combining abilities of students over 15 years. The test consists of 40 tasks and its evaluation process also contains a comparison of the results based on gender and mathematics mark.

The Contribution of School Breaks to the All-day Physical Activity of 9- and 10-year-old Overweight and OBESE Children: an ActiTrainer Activity Monitor Pilot Study

This study examines whether physical activity (PA), in at least 30-minute school breaks, helps to achieve the recommended amount of daily PA and whether these exercises influence after-school PA. The ActiTrainer-based PA was monitored over two school days in 239 children aged from 9 to 10 (137 girls and 102 boys) in six classes of two elementary schools in Katowice (Poland) in February 2010. The levels of measured PA were assessed based on steps, heart rate, and duration of PA variables. This article is focuses on the analysis of perception and Internet use by girls in childhood and adoslecence. It provides information about the role of this influential medium from the first contact until periodic using of it. The text researches, how much time girls spend online and the activities they prefer. A constituent part is an analysis of the most visited site - Facebook and risks and dangers of using social networks.
