Students' and teachers' attitudes towards biology as a science and as a teaching subject
- PaedDr. Júlia Chudá, Katedra biológie, Pedagogická fakulta TU, Priemyselná 4, PO Box 9, 918 43 Trnava, Slovensko, email: julia.chuda@centrum.sk
The aim of the present study was to examine students' and teachers' attitudes towards biology. Students' attitudes were examined in four dimensions (interest, importance, activity, and teacher) and teachers' attitudes were examined also in four dimensions (interest, tools, activity, and students). I found that children's attitudes were mostly influenced by their sex and age. In contrast, teachers' attitudes were significantly affected by their age and the grade where they taught. Surprisingly, younger children (grades 5 and 6) showed more positive attitudes than older children. In general, this study suggests that students have relatively positive attitudes towards biology.
