Jaroslav Ko»a

e-Pedagogium 2019, 19(3):7-20 | DOI: 10.5507/epd.2019.018

This article reflects the scientific profile of a borderline discipline conceived between sociology and pedagogy. It highlights the positivistic foundations of sociology and the normative science profile of education sciences. Attention is paid to the perspectives of research in the sociology of education, where the author distinguishes between macro-social research solving traditional issues of school, society and family, teachers and students, and relatively new specific topics which lack fully clarified research methodology.

Current challenges in the sociology of education

Radomír Havlík

e-Pedagogium 2019, 19(3):21-31 | DOI: 10.5507/epd.2019.019

A requirement of sociology of education is to emphasise a macro-sociological view. New challenges are presented by political, demographic and cultural processes and changes in the state of the family, as well as by discussions on its concept. Society has a number of anomic features. Some militant forms of genderism and the effects of sexual minorities have a significant impact. Problems related to foreigners are exacerbated by potentially high immigration numbers of members of culturally distinct ethnicities. It is therefore a problem of upbringing to reject xenophobia and to form an appropriate attitude towards 'strangers'. That means respecting culturally...

e-Pedagogium 2019, 19(3):32-42 | DOI: 10.5507/epd.2019.020

Russia is a multi-ethnic and multiconfessional country where most of the population subscribe to Orthodox Christianity. There are also several supporters of other religious movements, where the most important are Islam, Judaism and Buddhism. In recent years, the ROC has begun to engage in expanding teaching, supporting the theory that the...
