Tradition of Ethical Education at Czech Schools

This article is a topical contribution to the issue of implementation of ethical education at Czech schools. Its goal is to familiarize the reader with the tradition of moral education at Czech schools. It focuses on the issue of introduction of moral education as a subject and examines its development in the twenties and thirties of the last century. It concentrates on teaching moral education at general, experimental and reform schools. It presents concrete pedagogical practices, deals with the then targets, curricula and subject methods.
Gender Equity in Achievements: Do Schools Disadvantage Boys or Girls?

The article is focused on the gender gap in achievements at Czech primary and secondary schools. Educational outcomes include both grades and results in external didactic tests. There is a substantial discrepancy between grades and tests, especially in mathematics - on average, girls achieve better grades but boys have better test results. This contradiction is explained by using the gender inequality concept. The article presents and analyzes the dominant interpretations in this field and argues against the approach saying that boys are disadvantaged at schools.
Development competences of social pedagogue on university study (program Social pedagogy)

The article describes the basic line of reseach and presented some new facts from partial results. Partial research results are analyzed on a theme student's opinion on study social pedagogy as a study program and a using knowledge to practice. Results presented facts from the thematic unit on the students' views in the issues of development of personality characteristics - motives to pursue the profession. Motives, motivation and access to the profession are the basic elements of personality characteristics on shaping the professional identity of social educator.
Participation in Dance Groups and Its Meaning in a Person's Life Under Scrutiny of the Phenomenological Examination

This paper presents participation in dance groups as one of the most important leisure activities offered in many regions of the Czech Republic. It will focus primarily on the leaders' personality, their personal perception of this activity and interconnectedness with the lifelong direction. The Influence of Informal Parent Control at Their Children's School Achievements

This article is about the problems of formal and informal control of children's school results by their parents. In the theoretical part it offers a view at the present family and school in the context of school successfulness of a child - pupil. In the empirical part the influence of the use of formal and informal control of results in education of a child - pupil is discussed, and a positive, accepting and at the same time demanding relation of a parent to their child is considered significant that may support the child's motivation to learning, school results and successfulness through open communication.
Verification of a Research Tool Focused on Investigating of Pupils' Opinion of the Importance of Biology Skills

The contribution deals with a pilot study used for verification of a research tool related to pupils' opinions of the importance of biology skills. The research tool was a questionnaire with 61 Likert type items divided into 4 parts. There was also investigated the influence of gender, grade and class on the pupils' opinion. The sample consisted of 91 pupils from a primary school. The Cronbach's alpha was used for the determination of reliability, and the Analysis of Variance was used for the finding of the influence of independent variables. The conclusion part of the contribution contains information about a future research.

Diagnostic Possibilities of Language Skills of Children with Severe Hearing Impairment

The article introduces the readers in issues of diagnostics of children with severe hearing impairment, specifically languages skills. It briefly describes the image of Carolina Picture Vocabulary Test, which primarily determines the sign vocabulary in children with hearing loss greater than 80 dB at age 2.5 to 16 years, whose preferred communication code is the sign language.
Learning a Foreign Language and Students with Hearing Impairments

The issue of learning of foreign languages in pupils with hearing impairment is very important. There is recently much attention paid to it in connection with the new educational law in the Slovak Republic and opportunities in the integrated/inclusive school setting. This paper reports the results of 116 questionnaires of students with hearing impairment. These results complement the information that we received from teachers teaching of foreign language and were presented in another study.
