Quality of Current Biology Textbooks from Various Perspectives

The text difficulty and types of tasks were evaluated in current Czech biology textbooks of six publishing companies. In addition, views of teachers on these textbooks were studied.The results show that textbooks of the SPN publishing company have optimal values of the text difficulty and suitable tasks but they are not very widespread at schools.In contrast, the textbooks of the Prodos publishing company have more difficult text and smaller range of tasks. They are very common at schools. It is necessary to consider the quality of textbooks from different points of view when we select them for teaching.

English for Specific Purposes - Subject of Applied Linguistics at Universities of Non-philological Orientation

The paper deals with the presentation of the specialist theoretical work relating to the problems of applied linguistics with the focus on English for specific purposes (ESP) at universities of non-philological orientation. Syndromes Associated with Orofacial Clefts

The article describes syndromes associated with orofacial clefts occuring the most commonly. We would like to introduce to readers to some findings from special pedagogical care of persons with syndrome associated with a orofacial clefts, we write in detail about speech - language therapy. The article also brings forward selected psychological aspects of families of these people. Finally we mention the surgical treatment of congenital defects. We compare these findings from the Czech Republic with findings from Slovakia, the U.S.A. and Sweden.

The Pupils' Knowledge of the Selected Living Things at Primary School

This article deals with the knowledge of selected living things among pupils of the fifth grade of primary school. Two methods of the exploring were applied in this survey. Firstly, the knowledge was tested with a presentation of photographs and secondly, the knowledge was tested with a test with presentation of real living things. 239 pupils from 16 schools were tested. Low knowledge of correct species names was observed.

Research of the Contemporary State of Speech of People Living in the North Moravia

The contribution deals with the current state of speech in people living in the North Moravia. It is focused specifically on the issue of the Lašsko dialect in Ostrava, Karviná which, from the linguistic point of view, includes two sub-dialects of the Silesian dialect (the Eastern-Ostrava subtype and the Polish-Czech mixed lane) having many common characteristics.

To the Problems of the Foundation of the Czech Minority Elementary Schools in Ústí nad Labem and Its Surroundings During 1867-1918 Period

The arcticle is focused on the foundation of the Czech minority elementary schools in Ustí nad Labem and its surroundings, based on the study of the historical sources, the education laws and the press news. The author pays attention to the questions who endeavoured after the foundations, how this foundation was running and which circumstances (national, bureaucratic) had to be overcome.

History Textbooks for the 7th Grade of Primary School and Their Didactic Background Level

This paper presents an analysis of the didactic background level of the History textbooks. The sample included 9 current Czech History textbooks for the 7th grade of primary school. The rate of didactic background level of a textbook means quantity based on evaluating of the use of structural verbal and video components. The quantitative components express the evaluation.

Key Aspects of the Early Parent - Child with Disability Interaction in the Context of Early Care

Basic characteristics of the early parent - child with disability interaction are defined in this article. Qualitative research data were acquired from families with a disabled child, which have received support and therapy from a professional during the first six years of child's life. The data were collected by observation and interview and then analyzed using the grounded theory method.
