English for Specific Purposes - Subject of Applied Linguistics at Universities of Non-philological Orientation

The paper deals with the presentation of the specialist theoretical work relating to the problems of applied linguistics with the focus on English for specific purposes (ESP) at universities of non-philological orientation. In accordance with the principle of continuity with the knowledge of other authors, the contribution forms the part of a theoretical background for the research of English for specific purposes that will be realised within the author's doctoral thesis. In the first part the author characterises a special/specific language in general, and this is followed by English for specific purposes characterization. In next parts, the author gives the survey of the origins and development of English for specific purposes together with the possibilities of ESP classification.
