The paper presents an insight into the life of one class during one academic year. The presented qualitative study uses the unique situation of repeated school closures in 2020 and 2021 and monitors the immediate impressions and development of the attitudes of eighth and ninth graders towards distance learning. The research took place in three phases, of which the first monitored the pupils' expectations and next their experience with distance learning after the repeated closure of the school. Written narratives, focus groups and semi-structured interviews with pupils were used to obtain data. The results show that there are changes in the attitudes of students in looking at distance learning over time. The pupil's family background and the pupil's ability to learn independently proved to be important factors influencing distance learning. The reduction of social contacts was important for all pupils.
Keywords: distance learning, pupils' perspectives, COVID-19, lower secondary education.
