Jitka Hloušková
e-Pedagogium 2007, 7(2):29-35
The article deals with possible areas of intersection among the world of education, the world of work and language teaching goals. It takes note of the results of research carried out in the Czech Republic to analyse the problems school graduates face when entering the labour market and to detect the requirements and needs of employers and the opinions of job-centre officials. Further, it outlines an example of possible contribution of the world of education, namely teachers of Foreign Languages for Specific Purposes on the tertiary level, to research in this field and to better participation of school graduates in the labour market. The example is...

Students' and teachers' attitudes towards biology as a science and as a teaching subject
Júlia Chudá
e-Pedagogium 2007, 7(2):52-70
The aim of the present study was to examine students' and teachers' attitudes towards biology. Students' attitudes were examined in four dimensions (interest, importance, activity, and teacher) and teachers' attitudes were examined also in four dimensions (interest, tools, activity, and students). I found that children's attitudes were mostly influenced by their sex and age. In contrast, teachers' attitudes were significantly affected by their age and the grade where they taught. Surprisingly, younger children (grades 5 and 6) showed more positive attitudes than older children. In general, this study suggests that students have relatively positive...
Some reflections on the teaching methods employed in the course titled 'E-learning for teachers'
Kamil Kopecký, Kateřina Jechová
e-Pedagogium 2007, 7(2):71-77
This paper presents the results of an analysis of a pilot one-semester course titled 'E-learning for teachers' offered at the Faculty of Education of Palacký University, which was based entirely on distance e-learning. The pilot course was designed to determine if e-learning (which places high demands on students' self-discipline, independency, and responsibility) is a form of study that is possible even for fulltime students. Results of the analysis are compared with opinions of the attendees who describe their first experience with online-based e-learning (realized in LMS Unifor).
Loanwords in the vocabulary of Czech children
Kamil Kopecký, Kateřina Jechová
e-Pedagogium 2007, 7(2):78-85
This paper deals with current Czech lexical items that have been borrowed from other languages. The causes of the massive import of loanwords into Czech in the last few years are examined, as well as their acquisition by children aged 11 through 15. The objective was to determine whether young users of Czech utilize borrowings in their utterances and, if so, in what contexts they most abound. Specific examples are provided.

Gabriela Leskovjanská
e-Pedagogium 2007, 7(2):86-101
This paper examines specific aspects of the cooperation between school psychologists and teachers when they are trying to prevent and eliminate problematic behaviour in students at Slovak primary and secondary schools. The aim of the study was to make a quantitative and qualitative examination of how teachers and psychologists assess the causes of students' problematic behaviour. Further, emotional responses, coping strategies, and also the quality and efficiency of the cooperation between school psychologists and teachers were investigated. Results suggest that psychologists are more critical when evaluating the cooperation and also that age and years...

This paper deals with the topic of interaction styles of teachers and students (cf. Flandera's typology of education styles). Emphasis is placed on the (non-)directiveness of teachers within "student-directed education". A scale serving as an index of teachers' non-directivity in their interaction with students is proposed and tested, and a potential positive influence of non-directive approaches on the atmosphere in class is pointed out.

Some problems of semiotic activities in hearing impaired individuals
Petra Potměšilová
e-Pedagogium 2007, 7(2):126-136
This paper examines some problems of semantic and semiotic activities in hearing impaired students with respect to visual arts. The theory about 'sings', 'symbols', and 'concepts' is drawn on in this article; 'sing' and 'symbol' are defined here according to Mucha (2000) and the definition of 'concept' was adopted from Čechová (1996) and Materna (2000). The study reported on here employed Torreces' figural test of creative thinking (Jurčová 1984), which is designed for the assessment of imagination, creativity, and originality in visual arts. Subjects are asked to finish incomplete figural drawings.
