Michal Kaplánek

e-Pedagogium 2010, 10(2):20-27 | DOI: 10.5507/epd.2010.020

The aim of ethics is to teach pupils to distinguish between morally good and morally bad behavior. The prerequisite for this is the "school spirit". This paper contains a reflection on how pedagogy can understand the concept of "spirit" and how it can be given to the current education system.

There is a lack of principle awareness; objectivity, truthfulness, originality, principality and tolerance of other perspectives, personal honesty, tactfulness and integrity, absence of critical modest and humble behaviour.

Ethical Education and Czech Schools in Year 2010

Pavel Vacek

e-Pedagogium 2010, 10(2):61-72 | DOI: 10.5507/epd.2010.023

The status quo of ethical education in the Czech Republic is presented in a wider historical and social context in the first part of the text. Consequently, the work shows what options schools and teachers in general have in influencing pupils' character within the context of the development of the contemporary Czech education system. The final part of the work offers comments and concrete procedures that would, if appropriately applied, allow for positive changes in the quality of moral education in Czech schools.
