Three years of research in students' preparedness for the study of information technology

This paper examines students' preparedness for the study of information technology (IT) at the BERG faculty of the Technical University in Košice. The research conducted aimed at assessing students' knowledge of IT acquired at secondary schools. An electronic questionnaire using internet and database technologies that enhance data analysis possibilities was employed to elicit responses from students. This paper summarizes the essentials of computer ergonomics that can greatly help to reduce the negative effects of working with computers. The objective of ergonomics is to enhance performance. An ergonomically welldesigned workplace is a prerequisite for achieving such goals.

The author deals with the possibility of upbringing of hearing impaired pupils in special school settings as an integral part of special education process. The child's level of communication skills seems to be the most problematic domain. In this matter of fact, we cannot see as a problem the question of which language the communication is based on. A consideration of the most effective method is based on author's research which was focused on self-reflection of hearing impaired adolescents at special schools for the hearing impaired.
