This paper reports on some preliminary results of a study examining child and adolescent reading habits. The focus is on reading as a component of the system of values and norms of adolescents; this is to emphasize the attitudinal dimension of reading and its manifestation in literature classes at lower secondary schools. A mixture of quantitative and qualitative methods is used to verify hypotheses derived from common opinions of the adolescent population on reading.
