SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS AND THEIR INTEREST IN NATURAL SCIENCES

Interest in studies of natural sciences in Europe as well as the Czech Republic is decreasing. Within the project The research of new creativity competition methods for young people aimed on motivation for research activity in hard sciences, especially mathematics, physics, and chemistry (STM Moravia) we focused mainly on popularity of physics, chemistry and mathematics with secondary school students. The contribution introduces the findings related to evaluation of the said subjects, reasons of their popularity, participation in natural sciences competitions and motivation for competing, students' participation in natural sciences courses, their reading of natural sciences magazines, evaluation of occupation prestige, orientation to the character of the occupation to which they want to dedicate themselves. The choice of university and its reasons are not skipped either.
