The present paper shows that different philosophical approaches affect the type of early intervention which is provided to families with children suffering from hearing loss. It reviews the literature on family-focused counselling. More specifically, it concentrates on the models of family-focused approaches and the challenges and difficulties related to its application to practice. In the conclusion, specific changes of early-counselling educational programmes are suggested.
