Reading of children and youth with an aural handicap is a very discussed issue nowadays. Reading has big asset for the development of an individuality. The sense of reading of aural handicapped children is given by their sensual handicap, too. A decrease of Czech language competence of those children makes the access to information by written word more difficult for them. Reading with understanding is a difficult activity for aural handicapped children. The article discuses the adjustment of literary texts for the needs of readers with aural handicap and the work of special pedagogues at the Department of special pedagogy, Faculty of Education, Palacky University in this area.
