Sensation Seeking Tendency as a Learning Influence Factor

This study deals with the sensation seeking tendency in connection with secondary grammar school students with extended sports preparation and physical education. According to Zuckerman(1994), sensation seeking is divided as follows: thrill and adventure seeking, experience seeking, boredom susceptibility and disinhibition. The study presents a theoretical context of sensation seeking which can have a direct or indirect influence on the learning process. The study shows that boys have a statistically higher tendency of sensation seeking, and on the contrary, the girls from the general secondary grammar school classes have the sensation seeking tendency lower in comparison with the boys and girls from the sport oriented secondary grammar school classes. The girls from the generally oriented secondary grammar school classes are not keen on searching for new and intensive experiences what can influence their learning. Boys mostly seek for thrill and adventure, they do not follow rules, and they are not resistant to boredom. Taking the sensation seeking tendency into consideration can improve the entire learning process. Primarily it can help understand and improve the learning process in the so-called misbehaved students. Their misbehaving may be caused by a higher need of sensation seeking.
