Milestones in the history of education towards citizenship in the Czech educational systém

This paper presents a historical reflection on the nearly-uninterrupted 85-year development of the subject providing basic knowledge of civics in Czech schools. This issue is treated on the background of political, social, and cultural events already since 1774. Years identified as milestones are 1923, 1948, and 1991; these dates represent the turning points in the development of the curriculum and the educational goals of the subject depending on the political changes in the country.
