Pilot study aims at processing of four case studies of starting nursery school teachers with different qualifications. Pilot study helped validate the functionality of questionnaires. Research part is based on a questionnaire survery among teachers in nursery schools (96 respondents) and on interviews with seven experts on pre-school education. The survey was comparing how teachers assess the importance of professional competence and adequacy of their development in the initial training, depending on their level of education. Using structured interviews allowed to collect the views of teachers on current training of kindergarten teachers. The questionnaire survey showed that respondents perceive the used set of competencies to be very important, because their assessment of the significance of individual competencies was high. Results of interviews with experts showed that there is a consensus in disagreement with three ways of education system, but opinions diverge on the changes.This article was written within the project GAUK no. 269815 Education nursery school teachers funded by the Grant Agency of Charles University.
