The contribution summarizes the available information related to typology of case studies, which can be used across research in helping professions research, including educational and special educational research approaches. The practical use of the multiple case study design is illustrated by the author's qualitative research on lifestyle limitations in people suffering from chronic illnesses, and by the target group of cases with multiple sclerosis. Outcomes of the research have been applied also for summarizing advantages and possible limits using this kind of research approach. Because the case study design is widely applicable, the importance of the contribution is concentrated in the areas of both educational, special educational research as well as in helping professions research areas.
