Some of the modern forms of study in both Czech and foreign universities are altogether based on the use of information and communication technologies. These facts encourage further development of pedagogical theories, especially in the field of the application of new learning theories' concepts. These need to be consistently applied within the frame of fully electronic forms of education, represented by the distance education realized in e-learning form or by some of its updated types like m-learning, e-twinning or blended learning. The paper presented thus deals with the development of distance learning realized in the form of e-learning and through learning theories. The latter are means for applying a wider range of learning strategies, thus making learning objectives achieved in a more effective way. Based on comparative analysis, the paper points to deeper connections between particular types of distance learning and related learning theories which once determined them.
