PT Journal AU Knausova, I TI On the basic-school education of children with a socio-cultural disadvantage SO e-Pedagogium PY 2006 BP 31 EP 38 VL 6 IS 3 DE Family background; socio-cultural disadvantage; communication; educational policy; principle of individualization and differentiation AB The present paper tries to identify the factors which can bring about a socio-cultural disadvantage of a schoolchild. One of these factors is the inadequate capability of individuals to express themselves, to communicate. Children who have family backgrounds not providing a stimulating environment (typically families with a lower level of educational background) are often unsuccessful at schools precisely because of their poor and insufficient ability of expressing themselves. The paper further discusses what possibilities there are within the current educational policy of the state. The principle of individualization and differentiation is described which could be employed by teachers when dealing with such problematic children. ER
