AB The text comprises three parts. The first part deals with the development of the culture of reading on the territory of today's Germany till the time of the origin of the first reading book. The second part shows, how the interest in reading in the basic schools in Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt and Bayern is supported. The third part brings the result of the public inquiry in reading imaginative literature in the Czech Republic. The result is, that not only our children and young people read little, but even the students of the Faculty of Pedagogy of the Palacky University do not show any special interest in reading. And what the author of the article thinks to be very bad is the fact, that even in such a little significant public inquiry the students do not dare to give their names.
